What is the most popular style of carpet today?

Today’s more popular styles of carpet seem to be moving more toward pattern and texture. To achieve that, the carpet manufacturers have brought us a return to LCL (Loop-cut-loop) carpets. These carpets give us a combination of a loop and a sheared loop which adds height and texture. The other trend in carpet is related to the yarn used to produce it. Nylon has been the tried and true filament for the most durable carpets, as it is a better crush-resisting and more durable yarn system. Carpet yarns made of PET polyester filament (think recycled pop bottles) are nearly as durable, but also inherently stain resistant and less expensive.

I don’t like footprints on the carpet. Is there a carpet I can choose to eliminate that problem?

There are options for those who don’t like the appearance of footprints or vacuum marks. Choose either a loop or a loop-cut-loop carpet to minimize that issue. Generally, the thicker or longer the carpet yarn, the more likely that foot traffic will leave impressions on the carpet. Opting for a shorter or “pulled down" pile carpet may be the answer.

What type of carpet pad should I use?

One of the biggest factors in the longevity of any carpet lies in the quality of the carpet pad placed beneath it. When a denser, premium pad is used, the life of the carpet can be significantly increased. This does not mean that the floor will have a hard feeling when walked on, rather the carpet will have a much better foundation, especially in high-traffic areas such as halls and steps. We recommend, and use, an 7/16", 8lb. Rebond pad on nearly all of our residential installations.

How long does it take between ordering and installation?

Because most carpet is produced and warehoused in Dalton, GA, it does take a period of time to receive your custom ordered carpet. Generally, once an order is placed, it will take approximately a week to ten days for your order to arrive in our warehouse. Once we receive the flooring we will contact you to arrange for installation. Typically, this is a 2-3 week process from start to finish.

Do you provide an installer?

We do have professional installers who perform both residential and commercial installations. They are all qualified and experienced in all categories including carpet, vinyl, ceramic tile, wood and laminate.

Do I have any responsibilities for the installation?

You will be contacted several days in advance of your installation by Dirks’ flooring manager confirming the schedule. The day before your scheduled installation you will be required to remove all knick-knacks, personal items and valuables. All electronics (computers, televisions and related components) must be disconnected prior to the installer’s arrival. If you require assistance in moving furniture, you must arrange that with the flooring manager at the time of scheduling installation.

Who takes out the old flooring and disposes of it?

Some customers save some expense by removing and disposing of the existing carpet on their own. However, our installers will perform that task, along with any additional clean-up, at an additional charge. That charge will be clearly present on the estimate provided to our customers.
